IMO the problem is in "everything I have seen". If anyone thinks they can listen to any media and know the true conversations Trump has had with Putin; with Zelensky, they are fooling themselves. Every President has back-channel conversations. The administration would be silly to share all their planned maneuvers, as they work to restore relationships and peace. And, regarding Trump's accusation: it's more probable that there is much more to the root causes of this war than we average American citizens could know. The fact that Zelensky is still coming to meet with Trump this week to discuss a Mineral Deal, means he must not be in that much of a 'huff' about the accusation. Makes ya think!
Sounds like youтАЩre describing TrumpтАЩs pathetic тАЬweave,тАЭ where he spouts all kinds of nonsense and falsehoods and in his own tiny mind, brings it all to some sort of brilliant conclusion. ThereтАЩs nothing mysterious going on here. Trump is an outspoken admirer of the mass murderer and assassin, Vladimir Putin and other dictators who donтАЩt have to deal with the pesky opposition, voters, free press or a constitution and he sees dollar signs in his eyes with all the economic deals Russia could offer. Putin invaded Ukraine and murdered thousands of its citizens because he thinks Ukraine belongs to him and is just one stage of his dream to reassemble the Russian empire. Zelensky must not be in тАЬmuch of a huff?!?!?тАЭ My god, he is desperate to save his people and his country, after all they have suffered and all they have lost, from being subsumed by a brutal dictator and the narcissistic, dictator-loving megalomaniac who just happens to be the leader of the free world and who is in the process of throwing them to the Russian wolves. Trump is no better than a mafia boss trying to shake down a corner store owner when he seeks to extort Ukraine for the mineral rights it will need to attempt to rebuild and in the process throwing Russia a gigantic lifeline just when its economy is teetering on the brink. It is shameful conduct that I never in my life thought I would ever see from an American president.
I just think it behooves us to actually NOT rely on today's news sources. Sadly. When I hear or read a news report, in today's media mayhem, I always stop and assume there's probably a lot I don't know...before I make assumptions (not accusing anyone of this, just sharing how I think). I think Sharon has shared something like this, that - the truth usually takes time to come out. So in Putin's example - what we see in the news is that 'Trump is in full support of Putin'; and I'm just saying I think the actual truth of Trump's strategy will be evident in time.
What the president of the USA chooses to say in matters of foreign policy does matter quite a bit though. It has implications around the entire world, which this post we are commenting on goes into detail about.
If you think we shouldn't rely on today's "news sources" then what are you doing here? Honest question. We have all chosen to pay for subscriptions to this site, so why assume that anyone you are talking to here is victim of "media mayhem"? Just because someone doesn't agree with you doesn't mean that they are forming their opinion based off what you consider to be a bad source.
Hey Marianne - the 'what are you doing here' is a fair question! :) I did initially start following Sharon because she had such a clear way of explaining the intricacies of the government, and her kindness and generosity are unmatched! She does still give great information regarding those intricacies, but she's moved towards adding a lot of her opinion of the news she shares (which is absolutely her prerogative!). A friend recently told me that to truly be informed you have to digest sources from the left and the right, and so I continue to follow Sharon to get political/government stories through a left-leaning viewpoint.
Also, I don't think I'm doing a great job of this - but I do have the things Sharon just shared in her Instagram Story: I'm not a cynic, I'm very trusting, I'm an optimist, and I like to put forth a 'positive vision'. I want to share hope and a different perspective on the matters.
Most of our comments to the Preamble consist of our questions but also sharing our opinions of the news we are consuming. So, it's true these are just my opinions, but hopefully adding a different viewpoint to the conversations about the news we're seeing.
I do really appreciate the back and forth, it always gives me things to think about!
While opinions are certainly not banned, i think that Sharon's followers are pretty intent on seeing receipts, so to speak, and having more information to form their opinions rather than relying on feelings. This is why a lot of comments here get met with questions asking for clarification/sources, and when that doesn't come it can be frustrating and feel like a waste of time.
I do think many of us want to learn and listen to understand. i personally find it much more impactful when the other party can back up what they're saying with more than "this is just how I feel."
Same. I am also frustrated with hearing about "the media" being unfair to Trump. It's an argument that can't really be refuted because it doesn't have any substance. It's just something they heard over and over and now repeat over and over because they think it ends every argument.
It doesn't. When "the media" isn't even part of the discussion, it often just seems to be a really vague and lazy way to brush off relevant information because the other party assumes that you're just following what you heard from "the media" (scare quotes required!) which they do not trust.
In reality, billions of people are getting information from millions of different sources, some completely fabricated. Misinformation and disinformation are a HUGE problem and most of that is NOT coming from "the media." This is 2025, not 2000. Your great grandparents know how to use the internet now.
Agree Melissa. I try and look at multiple news sources to find out what I can. There is always more to the story and I believe Trump always has a reason for his choices.
Oh, I don't think I know even a fraction of what's really going on. I was honestly wondering if you had any information rather than your own speculations. It's nice for you that you can feel so positively about Trump, but that doesn't mean your opinion is the truth.

This comment seems unfair to Marianne. None of us are privy to what goes on behind closed doors, so what we must rely on is reliable news sources.
Zelensky is having a discussion with Trump about a potential mineral deal to ensure his country continues to have US support.

Exactly. Then we could apply the same to any situation, and also to prior administrations. This is how conspiracy theories often start.
Editing to add that IтАЩm frustrated with constantly hearing that Trump has some master plan. There is no evidence that this is the case.
