I’m so sad that happened. I left all Meta platforms, but I miss your stories. We will continue to share MLK’s hope and strength with our children and others. I spent the day reading books about MLK with my two boys and talking about his kindness! ❤️

This is why I deleted all Meta accounts. I hated to leave you on Insta, but I can't support them anymore.

I recently deleted all Meta apps from my phone and now will only log into Instagram via my desktop. Your content is one of the only reasons I’ve even kept my account. What you share is an invaluable resource and I’ve learned a tremendous amount from you and your book and your posts. Thank you for what you do. Please don’t stop

It’s happening…I’m absolutely not shocked but still reeling from what is already happening & what’s to come. It’s absolutely going to be worse.

Like, the Gulf of America?!

You are absolutely and completely incorrect. Social media platforms were made aware of lies, misinformation and disinformation that was being posted about Covid and asked to enforce their own rules regarding same. Said platforms have now, in complete anticipatory obedience to the most inveterate liar to ever hold public office, abandoned fact checking and hate speech moderation. You voted for this. What corrosive effects do you think this will have on our country and society as a whole? There is no comparison between trying to save lives during a pandemic and Meta being so afraid of MAGA that they block an historian’s post on Martin Luther King, Jr. None.

“As we have recently heard.” “I heard today.” More gaslighting. This ridiculous censorship narrative regarding Covid lies is no different than the white washing of enslavers trying to keep their slaves as State’s rights or Our Glorious Cause or repeatedly calling the despicable and horrendous attack on law enforcement and our Capitol a Day of Love. Broadcasting it over and over and over does not make it so.

Save your laughing/crying emojis for the families of all the Capitol police who were killed or injured as a result of the attacks by Trump’s frothing-at- the-mouth supporters who were enraged by The Big Steal, the most despicable gaslighting effort of them all.

“I JUST GOT THE NEWS FROM MY LAWYER… I GOT A PARDON BABY! THANK YOU PRESIDENT TRUMP!!!” Jacob Chansley, dubbed the QAnon shaman as a reflection of his horned-animal headdress and body paint at the January 6, 2021, riot inside the U.S. Capitol, posted on X shortly after President Donald Trump commuted the sentences of or pardoned all those convicted of crimes related to the events of that day.

“NOW I AM GONNA BY SOME MOTHA FU*KIN GUNS!!! I LOVE THIS COUNTRY!!! GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!” he continued. “J6ers are getting released & JUSTICE HAS COME… EVERYTHING done in the dark WILL come to light!”

I have left Facebook. I remained on Instagram because of creators like Sharon. I deleted TikTok. I feel like I need to waste less time on social media anyway. Doom scrolling is bad for my mental health.

What do we do when all social media platforms are taken over by the right wing? In all seriousness, how do we fight this content moderation and censorship? It's getting scary out here.

You sound lovely. Thanks for calling me a bozo.

Actually, Leigh did not call you a bozo. She referred to right wing claims as “bozo claims.” In other words, the claims are ridiculous. Those making them, however, are quite serious and believe the misinformation they’ve been given. There is a distinction :-)

The thing that discourages me the most about both of your responses is the blanket statements regarding the right wing, their claims, and "misinformation". This is a complete stereotyping and disregard of an entire group of people. The lack of open-mindedness to another side's perspective is incredibly discouraging to me. This is why our country is so divided. People don't even start from a position of assuming that most people on the other side are good people with sound minds. They just lump them together and throw them out. When I said the right (which, yes, is the side I identify with) has been censored for 4 years, there was no "curiousity", sympathy, camaraderie (now that your side is experiencing it, too), or benefit of the doubt from either of you. You assume that people were always censored for good reason - until now, when people you follow are being censored, too. Now that your side is experiencing it, we should be able to agree: censorship is noy good. Instead, incredulously, we're just being more divided.

If ‘the right has been censored for years’ is not a blanket statement, I don’t know what is.

Well said Emily. It is baffling to me that this is creating more of a divide when it has been happening for years. Thank you for speaking the truth.

I understand the desire to leave Meta. But if we all leave, it becomes another echo chamber for MAGA. If we stay, we can counter the lies and keep rais9ng our voices in protest. It won't be easy, but I believe it's necessary.
