I would love to see an infographic akin to a "fact check" of all statements made in these plans, side by side, with a "what it would take to actually accomplish this" blurb for each (similar to what you've done here). Politicians are great at saying all the things, but coming from someone who's worked in government it is *never* that easy/straightforward and I feel the general public gets misled with the broad statements both sides routinely make.

This is indicative of the fact that the general public is simply not privy to the process(es) of government. I'm not sure I could pinpoint the historical moment when folks began to believe that the president had/has powers beyond what the Constitution affords--but this notion that the Chief Executive can make anything happen that they wish is prevalent.

It is very prevalent and I think it is also what makes Trump so appealing to people. “He was a business owner he will run the nation similarly” but the government has three branches and 2 of those should be working together for policies.

Thank you! Understanding what a President can and can’t do is so important.

I find the short section on abortion in the Republican platform interesting. I think it shows a clear understanding that going hard against abortion federally is going to tank their chances of winning. I’m really curious if stepping back will help or hurt.

Regardless of who wins, this just shows that we need a Congress that functions. Not much can happen if they refuse to work together.

My community is currently dealing with the aftermath of flooding from Debby. FEMA is almost out of money and Congress is on vacation instead of making sure our country is funded because they can’t come to an agreement.

Very helpful Sharon. I wish we could see more things like this that clearly show the issues each side is focusing on and their plans, because I do NOT see this in the general media. This is exactly what I want to see to help me decide how I want to vote.

Loved this! Even though I know who I am voting for, it was really helpful to read straight facts about plans for both Republicans and Democrats. Like someone else mentioned, we simply don't get this type of information from the media. Thank you, Sharon!

The card campaign https://www.bigwin2024.com/

Does exactly this. On one side of the card is just the facts from one candidate on one topic, and the other candidate in the other side. You can print them out and share them.

Gina, this is AMAZING ‼️Thanks so much for sharing this resource. I am totally printing these out to share! 👏

And for those who do not like talking to people, you can surreptitiously leave them to be “found”.

I learned about it from Heather Cox Richardson. I’ve been printing and handing them out. People love them. I love that they are nonpartisan so I can give them to everyone that is interested in facts.

The Republican platform doesn't mention project 2025 because it isn't popular, but it is definitely part of their plan. In his recent interview with Elon Musk, Trump stated things he plans to do that are listed in Project 2025, for example getting rid of the Department of Education and other Government agencies.

Would definitely like to see more about their platforms. It's so helpful to learn what they CAN do vs what they SAY they will do.

Didn’t Republicans in congress also block a bill that would protect access to birth control on a national level, like the access to IVF bill that was blocked?

Yes, I mentioned that towards the end ❤️

Our Republican supermajority MO state house also voted against protecting both. You cannot believe or trust the R platform to protect those rights. It says one thing, but the lawmakers do the opposite.

Fellow Missourian here. I can vouch for the numerous attempts in MO that are much more extreme than the Republican platform. They aren’t dumb. They are hiding what people don’t like. (Note: I was always a Republican, and even helped my husband Libby in DC in the past, until 2020)

Both my Rep Patterson and Sen Cierpoit lied to my face about IP legislation. They both told me “I didn’t have to worry about it, it wasn’t going anywhere.”

Thank you for this! It’s good to see each side’s goals side by side and have an explanation of the feasibility of each. Look forward to more!

Don’t forget to look to Project 2025 for the nitty gritty of the conservative agenda. Do not let Trump’s recent denials deter you. I’ve seen what I need to see. Also, how does the recent SCOTUS decision on presidential immunity affect the way a president can/will wield “power”?

And mass deportation is part of Project 2025 so Donald Trump’s main talking point is straight from Project 2025 as are many, many of JD Vance’s talking points. We aren’t hearing much about Donald Trump’s age, but he’s 78 years old which means anyone voting for Trump needs to feel positive about JD Vance’s ability to run the country.

Great article! Without a doubt, this presidential election is important as is each party platform. However, the election for congressional seats is equally important. If people can't work together across the aisle without fear of retribution from their own party, nothing will get done. From what I have witnessed, the current congress has spent more time arguing than they've spent truly working for the people. That has got to change. Our elected officials must be held accountable!
