This week, the US Senate is going to decide whether to continue funding the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) — which includes Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) — without any guarantee of accountability for agents’ actions. Senators are slated to vote on a DHS appropriations bill that would keep ICE funded through September of this year.
But after all we’ve seen in Minneapolis and in cities around the country where ICE has exercised unchecked power to unconstitutionally harass, detain, brutalize, and even kill, we can’t stand by and let them continue without a fight.
Right now, today, we have the opportunity to make our voices heard and demand that our senators stand up for their constituents.
Call your senator, and ask them to commit to opposing any DHS appropriations bill that includes funding for ICE without clear guardrails on their actions, and to fight for legislative amendments that would ban stopping people without justification, require judicial warrants before entering people’s homes, and hold agents accountable for aggressive misconduct.
We’ve got the phone numbers you need right here, along with a script you can use for the call.
This is our moment for maximum impact. Add your call to the more than 40,000 made so far by other concerned Americans. When you’re done, make sure to use our tracker so we can see how many of you have spoken out.
Time per call? About one minute. Do this today!
And share this post widely so that we can add as many voices as we can.
Here’s me calling my senator earlier today:

Done! ✅
Sharon, I’ve been following you since the pandemic (I was only a senior in high school then!), and over the last five years I have donated blood because of you, become more civics- and history-minded because of you, called my reps because of you, and resisted falling into a state of hopeless inaction because of you. I have watched people on “both sides” criticize you for refusing to let party lines obscure your principles, and your reactions to those criticisms have only reaffirmed by decision to support you. I know many others can say the same.
Keep on inspiring action, and *please* (because it must be said for anyone with a large following) never, ever forget why you started and the kinds of folks you represent.
Done! I burst into tears when I called my first senator, and then the secretary that answered was crying with me because she said he’s already voting no. We actually had a conversation about how she and her husband are so brokenhearted and both of us were crying by the end. My second senator I had to leave a message, but thank you for making this so easy.!
