Done! ✅

Sharon, I’ve been following you since the pandemic (I was only a senior in high school then!), and over the last five years I have donated blood because of you, become more civics- and history-minded because of you, called my reps because of you, and resisted falling into a state of hopeless inaction because of you. I have watched people on “both sides” criticize you for refusing to let party lines obscure your principles, and your reactions to those criticisms have only reaffirmed by decision to support you. I know many others can say the same.

Keep on inspiring action, and *please* (because it must be said for anyone with a large following) never, ever forget why you started and the kinds of folks you represent.

Done! I burst into tears when I called my first senator, and then the secretary that answered was crying with me because she said he’s already voting no. We actually had a conversation about how she and her husband are so brokenhearted and both of us were crying by the end. My second senator I had to leave a message, but thank you for making this so easy.!

Done! Maybe a silly question but others might be also wondering….Is it helpful to call everyday even if I say the exact same thing? Or better to vary my messages/requests? What makes more of an impact? I hope my questions makes sense!😅 Also it would be interesting to see a breakdown of how many calls to each state if that’s possible? I’m curious about my state!

I contacted them Saturday and encouraged my adult kids to do so. ❤️

Thanks for the script! I sent emails to both of my senators. It's not a call, but it's what I had in me.

Encouragement for those like me who have anticipation anxiety about everything (including writing this comment) - I've sent many emails and responded to surveys, but this was my first time calling senators. I left voicemails of me reading the script below (primarily from Ben Sheehan's Instagram) for both my guys in NC. Use it if you like. You might be sweaty and shaky for 5 min, but it will be worth it, and it will definitely be easier next time.

"My name is ____, and I'm a ___ state resident. My number is ___ and my zip code is ___. I'm calling to urge Sentor ___ to filibuster the Homeland Security appropriations bill this week. The behavior of ICE is immoral, illegal, and yet another example of how the Trump administration is dragging our country into a state of fascism.

I would also like Senator ___ to push for:

-a separate vote on the DHS bill from the others being considered

-a ban on ICE agents wearing face masks to hide their identity

-a ban on ICE agents detaining and deporting US citizens

-ICE agents needing a warrant signed by a judge to enter a home

-an end to ICE arrest quotas

-a repeal of ICE's funding

My prayers are with you. Your constituents are watching. Thank you for listening."

I called. My first call (I've emailed before) and I was trembling. I started with the script but then just said what was on my heart. If I can (mostly) get over my fear and call, then so can you.. If you don't want to talk to a person, call after hours so you can leave a voicemail.

I was nervous too. We are brave!
