We export between 10% and 20% of our corn, but despite its status as a classic summer barbecue side dish, the non-exported vast majority is also not eaten by us but instead used for animal feed and biofuels.
The majority of corn grown in the US is corn for grain, or field corn, not sweet corn. The above info would benefit from clarification/editing.
I’ve seen a new trend of mostly Mormons buying a full cow and having it processed and frozen. I do appreciate this idea of using the whole cow. Though it makes the most sense for bigger families. I don’t have that kind of room in my freezer.
Thank you Andrea. I would love to see an article on the food labeling involved in these export/import items. From what I understand, we also send out our US grown poultry to China to de-bone etc and re-import it but this is not shown on our frozen food packaging. The information on fish is interesting, considering the fact the fish must be de-frosted to remove the bones and then frozen again. What flavor and nutrition we must be losing in the process!! I am trying to remove all products that have a Chinese source, which is hard to do with our nation's current packaging laws.
I had no idea these products were part of such complex systems! It boggles my mind. Appreciate the information but will need to let it simmer in my mind for full comprehension. 😉

Great overview. Thank you for taking a ton of research and writing it in a way that I can easily process
