Why I Wrote We Are Mighty
For every one of us who needs a reminder that we cannot give up on doing good
When I started writing We Are Mighty, I thought I was writing for kids.
But now, I also realize I was also writing for the rest of us.
Because the truth is, the world doesn’t always reward kindness. Or persistence. Or doing the next needed thing. But those are the exact choices that have changed history — and they’re what this book is about.
Susanna Chapman’s illustrations make every page shimmer with life. And when Brad Meltzer said:
“Want mighty kids? Give them these spectacular mighty heroes. I love it. Sharon McMahon is a national treasure,”
I cried. Because that’s what I want this book to be: a reminder that the world still belongs to people who choose goodness on purpose.
We Are Mighty arrives in May. If you’ve already preordered, thank you for helping it find its wings.
And if you haven’t, I hope you will — not for me, but for the kids who will grow up believing that courage doesn’t wait for permission.

Already ordered. Thank you for letting us know.
Thank you for writing this for kids! I am so excited to get it for my own three children.
