It's not just Gen Z. I am Gen X, raised on Vacation Bible School, Veggie Tales, Sesame Street, Mr. Rogers, and Reading Rainbow. The current disconnects between members of churches here in the south and the lessons I learned by "reading the red words" is something I cannot stand. It wasn't the pastor of the church I attended - he was actually wonderful. It was the congregants who were posting absolutely vile things on their social media accounts Monday-Saturday, then showing up on Sunday to worship, teach, lead youth group, or greet at the door. The hypocrisy is blatant and sickening. They think I have abandoned my Christianity, but they could not be further from the truth. I have abandoned the followers of a false prophet. I love that Gen Z is being so vocal about this. They might actually be the ones to save us all.
