We’ve been deluged with questions about the Big Beautiful Bill, the billions in federal school funding that’s being withheld, a misleading email from the Social Security administration, Elon Musk forming a new political party, and a J6 rioter who was pardoned, but who was just sentenced to life in prison for an assassination plot.
Thank you Sharon. I feel like the world at large is so chaotic. The stories keep piling up and yet determining where to find reliable information feels like a huge hurdle. I keep trying to move forward, making calls, volunteering at local nonprofits like food pantries to help, and yet it feels hard to hold onto hope. Your words, insights and the community you’ve created are a bright light- a class on how to move through these times. I so appreciate all you and your team are up to in this world.
Beth, yes! Feeling that too! I also want to say thank you for taking the time to volunteer in the community. I really appreciate what Sharon reminds us about doing the next needful thing. We can’t solve the our nation’s or world problems, but we can drive change and instill hope by taking it one day at a time and offering our hearts and hands to working towards a better tomorrow. Young volunteers have expressed that volunteerism has been their way to do something in an environment that feels increasingly hopeless.
Me too. It feels like straight up propaganda. I feel like I cannot trust our government at all and really wish I hadn’t given them so much of my information
I appreciate the information because knowledge is power, but it can also feel a bit scary. I didn’t pay much attention to the Preamble about Peter Thiel until I watched an interview with him and a gentleman from the New York Times. I would love to add that to Sharon’s list of ideas to further discuss because dark money in politics is frightening to me (so bring things-all things- out in the light of day!!).
This comment section might be a good place to leave this - for anyone wanting to help, a friend of ours recently signed up to be an advocate for the unaccompanied children being detained and deported. I'm not entirely sure of the details, but he signed up and attended a weekend class. He hasn't started officially yet, so I also don't have the details of what it looks like.
For anyone scrambling for ways to help, this might be a very important one. He's in LA doing this, but I bet there are programs all over the place. He said professionals with any kind of expertise are most welcome, but so is everyone. He is hispanic, so bilingual. I'm assuming that's also needed in many cases.
Sorry I couldn't be more specific with details. I wasn't the one to talk with him, so I couldn't ask questions. Hopefully it's easy to look up.
This weekend…on her IG, spoke about the offer of “thoughts and prayers” not being what was needed for the people in TX. My point is, what if that is simply all someone has to offer? IMO, we could all benefit by prayers. Prayer is the most powerful thing we can offer.
I saw her IG this weekend and she shared ways to help people in Texas, to give folks the opportunity to directly support those communities. I think if you understood that to mean "prayer is not enough" then you've put your own meaning onto it, especially because she pretty clearly stated that thoughts and prayers are often the only thing we offer during a tragedy. When the aid organizations sprang into action, she shared those details, because some people can (and do want to) offer material help as well. Prayer and action are not exclusive concepts.
While I can appreciate your interpretation, I disagree. This was her first message posted about the tragedy. She was clearly dissing the “thoughts and prayers” sentiment. I agree any help anyone can offer to assist matters. I lived through Helene in my area, I appreciate it all. 🩵

Thank you for saying what I’m feeling Beth. I am grateful that we are together in action, and not indifference.
Among other truly terrible news stories from the last week, getting that SSA email creeper me completely out

Thank you so much for that Sharon. There is too much going on in our country. It’s so hard to keep track of everything.
Lifting up all of those affected by the tragedy in Texas this weekend. We should never make light the power of prayer, ever Sharon…
Sorry, I must have missed what you're referring to: where did Sharon make light of the power of prayer?
