When Talarico first popped up in my awareness, I was hopeful. He seems like a candidate the Democratic party routinely ignores. But when I learned he was running against Jasmine Crockett, I was disappointed. This information about outright voter suppression is so disheartening. I don't know how much him vs Crockett played into this, but I am now suspicious of all his motives. And I'm glad I don't live in Texas, and nervous this kind of crap is going to occur other places this midterm cycle as well.
This has nothing to do with Talarico and EVERYTHING to do with Republicans trying to sow doubt so that exactly this happens. Dems become suspicious of their own great candidate and stay home.
As much as I love some things about Texas, H-E-B, Willie Nelson, Tex-Mex, it sure is embarrassing to live here sometimes.
Thank you for further information on that front. I'm still frustrated for you that Talarico and Crockett were running for the same seat, so you had to choose between them.
I was not sure if I was understanding correctly whether this affected him as well. I had read elsewhere a rumor that a lot of Republicans were going to register as Democrats to vote for him to beat out Crockett, which, if I were him, would really put a wrench in my faith in being the one who rightfully won the primary. I haven't seen any more definitive information on that rumor. But I was still disappointed that instead of getting two good Democratic representatives in Texas who could work together in Congress, the voters had to choose between them.
I’ve seen him in a few interviews and the speculation seems to be that he might be more threatening to the republicans than Crockett because he’s a white Christian man. In other words they don’t want him either
He speaks out openly against the Christian Nationalist ideology and influence in Texas politics and their insistence in displaying the Ten Commandments in public schools which is against the separation of church and state rule in the US Constitution.
A lie was started early to pit Talarico against Colin Allred ( a Black Candidate) and it has remained in place to this day as Colin has been very cool toward James much to my chagrin, yet, Colin is in a runoff for a seat in District 33. If he wins that and I am allowed to vote for him in November, I will. I vote for likeminded people regardless of race, color or creed, although in the case of James and Jasmine I went with James because of my Presbyterian background and his enrollment in the Presbyterian Seminary in Austin, Texas.
Diana, please do not succumb to another form of racism by denigrating and doubting Talarico, as he is a man of integrity and virtue , just as Jasmine is ,but happens to be white and because he is white does not mean that he is a White Supremacist. Far from it . Look into his back ground and ask yourself if he is truly untrustworthy. I have done so and am supporting him to run for the US Senate seat to replace John Cornyn. I told Jasmine that if she won against James I would surely vote for her, as I see her as a very upright and strong woman of character ,as is Talarico. They both need to be in our US government ,but, it is not to be so right now and I wish the very best for her as she supports James to victory, so, please reconsider.

Bridgit, there are still some very good people living in Texas and it will show come voting time.
Believe me…it feels good to have hope in Texas again. So many good people working for change.

Me, too, Diane.
Why are you suspicious of him? He was also affected by the republicans precinct rule change.

I am absolutely furious about these and the many other voter suppression plots. 😡
Well said, Kahlil.
Why can't voting in Texas just follow the KISS Principle (Keep It Simple, Silly!)?
Sadly, White Supremacists relish making voting hard for anyone not white.
