Everyday I feel more blown away by the lawlessness of this administration and capitulation by the Republican members of Congress.

Three separate but equal branches of government. Yelling it from the rooftops!!

This is so scary and heartbreaking. I am trying not to rage at all the people I know who voted this monstrous administration into power. I know they have been lied to and have been deceived by the propaganda but I honestly don’t think I will be able to respect someone who voted for this administration ever again. Greed, xenophobia, bigotry and/or selfishness were at the heart of every single MAGA vote and it’s unforgivable.

Agreed, Kathryn. Agreed. There are people in my life who still support this administration, and I have lost all trust in them. If I knew where Ann Frank was hiding, I wouldn’t let these people know.

You can't think like that. Saying all those people are bigots or greedy or selfish is stereotyping at its best and gets no one anywhere. People weighed the options at the time and made the decision they thought was best. The kicker is what do they think NOW? That is the real issue. I have no problem with someone who voted for him at the time, feeling like he was better than the other option, especially with the Democratic fiasco that was going on at the time. However, what is happening now is a different story and many are awakening to a power hungry president who is changing the rule of law. We must come together on this and not push those people out if we want this country to continue.

I don’t agree with what is happening right now with the abuse of power, but also strongly disagree with your classification of MAGA voters. That is falling for propaganda and contributes to the division. Xenophobia, bigotry, and selfishness exist in some people regardless of how they vote or don’t vote.

Yes, please, let’s speak truth to power, AND have compassion for the fact that the false narratives, lies and intentional deception have captivated many and used fear and hate to activate a base. It is scary, and it is heartbreaking. And we need to center and ground ourselves for strong resistance.

Amy, thank you for sharing your perspective.

Katheryn expressed her very different view, and I am grateful that we have a safe place for everyone to respectfully do the same, so we can all explain ourselves, and learn from each other.

i’m sorry but if someone is still supporting Donald Trump- they need to take a good look in the mirror! If you agree with the way he is treating people based on color, religion, sexual orientation or whatever you need to look deeper in your soul.

I would say the same about people who wish harm on people for how they vote. Many people need to check their hearts. 💕

There is someone on here who repeatedly wishes harm on Trump voters. I would also hope that people check their hearts when they feel hate. Especially towards people who think differently or aren’t politically aligned.

Judge Immergut’s ruling answered the question when military force can constitutionally be deployed.

Elise asked whether the ruling will hold.

But what I want to know is:

1. Will the people breaking the law be help accountable?

2. Who has the ability to hold them accountable?

3. And by accountable, I know judges and Congress can tell them to stop, but who has the ability to physically make them?

4. What would that look like?

5. What can we do to facilitate that?

Good questions. Also, if DOJ says "No one is above the law", why has this administration indeed put themselves above the law? They have ignored court orders regarding flying immigrants out of the country. And yet no one seems to do a thing. I believe they literally get away with murder.

I hope the people who support this new precedent understand that a President of the party they oppose can now also use these powers if they so choose. I certainly hope they won’t but it is now on the table thanks to this administration.

I hate that my mind always goes there too, because I don't want anyone to do the things Trump is doing, but this is what I always think of as well. We're opening this up for everyone to do and you're not going to be happy when those powers are being used against you. Everyone should be speaking out about children being zip tied. This is not immigration reform, this is not making us great, there are so many ways to deal with immigration but this is not it.

I kind of wish I could believe that because I feel like so much good could be done if a Democratic president went around an obstructionist Congress and actually did something with respect to elder care, child care, climate change, veterans, immigration, international relations, jobs of the future, etc. But I recently heard a law professor who is an expert on SCOTUS, opine that in her view, this particular SCOTUS would twist itself into knots to find any reason whatsoever to rule that whatever the Democratic president was trying to do is somehow different than what Trump did and so would not allow it. And of course a Democratic president, who actually believes in democracy, the Constitution and the separation of powers, would comply.

This administration has done a LOT to push the envelope to see what happens when they do... But I like the quote from Geoffrey S. Corn: “This is not stretching the envelope. This is shredding it. This is tearing it apart.” Yes, indeed. What happens when administrations DON'T follow a judge's ruling? Where are the consequences? What happens next?

Thank you for covering such an important topic! It is critical that we are all made aware of these things. I don’t know any Trump voters who would be okay with what happened in Chicago, especially to the children, but it seems most don’t know it happened.

I agree. I spoke to my husband about this yesterday. He is a staunch Republican and while I vote conservative most of the time, I am feeling like I don’t have a political home. We actually don’t discuss politics often but did talk about what is happening in Chicago. He wasn’t really aware of the horrific things happening with there and other places with ICE.

I want to share posts about these raids to drive awareness but have not found a news outlet or source covering them in a way that isn’t wildly biased (which would cause them to be ignored). Any suggestions are welcome!

In what world can anyone think that it’s ok for a raid to happen as it did? The people live there have to try & get repairs done, find their belongings & on top of everything else, deal with the trauma!!! Zip tying children? How low can this administration go before one GOP congressperson says ENOUGH?

Mandy Thompson's avatar

And (unsurprisingly) most arrested in this raid were people NOT associated with Tren de Aragua, correct? But this raid was justified as the "armed conflict" with drug cartels, and was not like other ICE raids with warrants, etc. How are those other arrests legal, if the basis of the raid was the "armed conflict" with drug cartels and the raid had no judicial warrant permitting other arrests?

ICE meets all the writen qualificaitions of a terrorist group from even the US's own definition--that's what i can't get out of my mind--but because it's all directed at the least powerful it basically recieves a shrug. history is not going to be kind about this--
