And amidst all the horror, take comfort in this. 140 million people watched the halftime show (many of us watched the Super Bowl because of the show) with another 30 million more watched it on YouTube within the 24 hours afterwards and 4-5 million watched Kid Rock. And that is happening because everyday people are finally understanding what this ethnic cleansing police state means.
Great piece! It should be published in the NYTimes as an op ed. This article analyzes perfectly what the show was all about, along with the comparison to last year’s half time show. Thank you!
Finally I can understand something about what the Bad Bunny half-time presentation meant. While watching in realtime, I failed to appreciate what was being told. My taste in shows does not appreciat the things that were being presented. My ability to interpret artistic presentations is severely limited. Thus, this essay is a sermon accompanying the hymns that are sung by the people that the United States has hurt and continues to hurt during the current invasion by the likes of donald trump(not capital letters on purpose. they are not appropriate.) Thank you to Bad Bunny and to Dante Stewart and the rest of the half-time presentation.
Thank you for this. I appreciate your perspective. The last ten years have been such an exhausting and devastating time - people of color have much to teach this old white woman. This last summer my husband and I were at yet another protest (are they helping? I don’t know) A trump truck drove scarily near us- the driver shouting obscenities. My husband, retired teamster that he is, bristled and huffed up ready to take this giant truck on. A young man of color standing next to us put his hand on my husband’s arm and smiled. He waved at the truck and shouted - “love to you!” And laughed. We laughed. It was perfect. Every trump truck after received the same. Bad Bunny was like that for me.
The through line of America's history has been one of othering marginalized groups, and what is ironic is that the words that are being used are the same as those used against the Irish and Italian ancestors of these white supremacists.
When you understand or at the very least read history, you can hopefully find some empathy and understand that what separates you from being oppressed might only be 50-100 years.
America (ALL of America) IS great when we lean into our diversity and absorb the beauty of all of the cultures that have made this melting pot.
I'm not Latino, but his performance and the positivity that radiated from it are healing.
Almost all 'popular' musicians change their lyrics for the Superbowl stage. Why are we complaining about Bad Bunny and not others? Or tuning into Kid Rock and not complaining about his music not being 'family friendly'? It makes their arguments weak and lets the real issues they have, racism, shine through.

Bad Bunny’s performance was joy, love, and a celebration/history lesson of Puerto Rico. It was fantastic!

All. Of. This. Every word. So beautifully written and true.
Bad Bunny's halftime show and this article both gave me hope for America for the first time in a while.
All of this!
This piece should be published everywhere!

You laughed, and now you’ve made me cry. Thank you for the beautiful story.
I have no words - thank you for sharing yours. We only turned on the TV for Bad Bunny’s performance and it was incredible.
Same here. Just the half time show for me. I saw 0% of the "game" and commercials. Lol
I love love LOVE to see Danté Stewart’s work featured here on The Preamble! Heartfelt and Holy words. Thank you.
Thank you for this.

Beautifully said.
This brought me to tears. Thank you. So beautifully written.
I really appreciate this article! I have seen a lot of people complain about lyrics not being 'family friendly' and this morning Carlos Whitaker addressed that in a really great way https://www.instagram.com/p/DUlDv7IkWoQ/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
