This will be interesting! Reading this also makes it seem so easy, although I know most people could never pull off how far she has made it. There’s the concept of the “wealth primary”: that says even before your name can get on a ballot, you have to convince wealthy people that you can raise enough money to afford the basic expenses of advertisements, swag, and spamming people by email and text. And then without a major party with massive resources to kick in once that gauntlet is finished, sticking around while the major parties attack with incessant misleading ads is going to be hell. But I really like this new vibe of welcoming voters into the process from the beginning; I think it can dull some of the attack ads when the major parties try to paint someone as dangerous, and voters are like… “I just watched this person live their life on Instagram for the past few months, and I really don’t trust the people who inauthentically speak ill of her.” Kinda like how the Cuomo attack ads against Mamdani backfired so beautifully. It’s a new world out there in political campaigns, and I think the candidates who realize it are the ones most likely to succeed.
I’m looking forward to watching this campaign. As her neighbor to the south, I’m wishing her much success, and hoping the same for the candidates in my area who are trying to break the stronghold MAGA has held here.
