This isn’t going to be a fact check of the president’s address to Congress, although there is plenty to fact check. If you’re interested in that, you can go here, here, or here.
I watched this year’s speech from a hotel room in Austin, TX, where I had been speaking at the SXSW conference. The last couple of years, I’ve been in DC for the address, but when I am not, I intentionally watch on C-SPAN so my thoughts are not colored by commentators glorifying or criticizing what’s happening. I go in with an open mind. I hope I like what I hear. I’m prepared to not.
(Small side note: I loved what Melania wore Tuesday night. Her suit game has been strong lately – she recently wore a three piece beige suit to the Capitol, and I immediately Googled where one could purchase such a look. Apparently, Ralph Lauren. And despite what you might think, what someone wears is political, just ask Benjamin Franklin. Or the women of Iran.)
The Democrats came in hot. But the real takeaway isn’t what they did. It’s what it revealed.
