Peak Governerd material right here. Big thanks to you and Mr. Blinken for taking the time to have this discussion and share it with us -- such important reminders that a complex world requires complex solutions.

๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ Blinken is a very well spoken person, ready on the uptake with history, policy details, and teacher-like explanations. I think my favorite question was the last one, about why isolationism is good or bad for us. Interesting that he connected the 1920s and 30s with todayโ€™s era. Excellent job, Sharon! What an amazing opportunity.

Agree 100%! Remember you are not just voting for the president, you vote for their administration as well. Biden may not be the best public speaker at times, but he knows how to put together a team to move the country forward.

Thank you Sharon for this interview, it was just what was needed. :)

What a gift. Thank you for this interview. It strikes me both high and low. The high- Mr Blinken is educated intelligent thoughtful and a fine communicator. I am thankful for his service. But alas the low- neither presidential candidate remotely compares. May we remain committed to pursue ideas such as you may put forth to improve our current election system.

It was refreshing to hear straightforward, contextual answers by Secretary Blinken. An excellent reminder/example of whom a President surrounds himself with matters.

This!! Remember when Trumpโ€™s SOS was Rex Tillerson from Exxon! Who we elect president matters to the world. When you hear someone say they are not happy with our presidential choices, Biden is too old/not up to the job, etc., please use this example of why itโ€™s important to support the Biden administration.

While I respect their opinion and acknowledge/agree with their concerns, this is not only our best option, itโ€™s also the worldโ€™s. Failure is not an option.

I even cut Rex Tillerson slack. He dealt with world leaders in his former occupation. Trump did not want Tillerson to do his own job. Trump obstructed his own foreign policy. Repeatedly previous administration representatives have told the public that they had to restrain Trump from doing illegal acts. The relationships that Trump valued were the most undemocratic rulers.

Expand full comment

There will be no one in Trumpโ€™s administration to restrain him, and no official acts will be illegal. It is not possible to overstate the danger if he is re-elected.. There is no way to overstate the urgency to support Bidenโ€™s re-election.

Such a great interview in a limited time, concise questions with thoughtful detailed answers. But I would add to Secโ€™y Blinkenโ€™s answer to the question regarding isolationism and why we should care about things happening so far away. Immigration and inflation seem to be on everyoneโ€™s mind. When we ignore deteriorating conditions in other countries it only increases the likelihood that more desperate people will attempt to come here. Similarly, we are part of the global economy and everything happening around the world can negatively affect the prices we pay for things right here, whether itโ€™s wheat and steel from Russiaโ€™s invasion of Ukraine, oil and gas from conflicts in the Middle East, skyrocketing shipping and insurance costs from global piracy or even the high cost of coffee and chocolate due to the effects of climate change. Even beyond humanitarian and altruistic motives, NOT going it alone is clearly and obviously in our own best interest.

Really good point. Ignoring other peopleโ€™s problems impacts us.

AND if we cause disruption and chaos in other countries for 30 years, then eventually their people will come here to seek refuge from the seeds we have sown. NATO keeps us honest in dealings with Europe. Iโ€™d like more alliances and less covert dealings throughout the world.

Great interview! Excellent questions and he answered clearly and directly. I hope people who lean isolation isn't will understand the importance of the alliance. In our personal lives, we can live alone but our lives are enhanced by our friends ๐Ÿงก. Similarly, global allies are friends that enhance the well-being of the world. Going it alone is always possible. It's just not preferable.

Peak Governerd, waking up and immediately watching an interview with the Secretary of State. I appreciate you asking the question about isolationism. It doesnโ€™t serve us at all to be set apart in this global economy and I think he explained in a way that allows everyone to understand why our country has chosen to lean in and not away from it.

What a thoughtful interview! I truly appreciated that this was a political interview that wasnโ€™t just out to trip up the interviewee or put them on the spot to defend themselves but rather, it felt educational. And while, Iโ€™m not surprised at all by that in this context with Sharon being who she is, it did pose a stark contrast to what I feel has become the norm in these situations/environments.

Also, I just want to second the comments above that it matters so much who a president surrounds themselves with โ€” Iโ€™ve felt this with every administration from both parties โ€” no single human can know or manage all the things. When we elect someone weโ€™re really โ€œelectingโ€ a cadre of people.

I just told my husband that we may not be happy with two very old candidates as our choices. Iโ€™m looking at the administration that will be in place to help me make a decision. We never get to see the workings of oneโ€™s job while working for an administration. This was so insightful.

This was a very enlightening interview that drives home the historical significance and present-day importance of NATO, especially when many U.S. citizens have wondered whether our continued membership in NATO is worth the cost. Your questions, and Secretary Blinken's answers, were exactly what people needed to hear right now. Thank you, Sharon, for being our voice.

Thank you and your team for pulling this interview together. What really struck me was how SOS Blinken not only directly answered the questions but also provided some helpful context around those answers. This wasn't a politician jockeying for a soundbite or yelling about some vague (usually nonexistent) threat. This was a wonderful demonstration of what government officials can be when they are educated, thoughtful, and care about the work they do on behalf of the American people, both at home and on the global stage. Great way to start the day.

Secretary Blinken is such an eloquent, but also down to earth speaker and I can see why you find him smart, genuine and kind. He also strikes me as someone who really wants to make a positive difference and not just โ€œbe seen/heardโ€. This was so refreshing and I really enjoyed the whole interview. Thank you for doing this [and congrats on the incredible opportunity], Sharon! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ
