The maddening part of the Epstein list outrage is that Trump’s supporters are ready to go to the mats over something that may not even exist; meanwhile, we’ve known for decades that Trump has been credibly accused of SA by multiple women, that he said he grabbed women by their genitals, that he bragged about watching underage girls in the Miss Teen USA pageant change backstage, that he was a very close associate of Jeffrey Epstein, that he cheated on each of his wives; the list goes on. He was found liable for SAing EJ Carroll. After Ghislaine Maxwell was indicted on sex trafficking charges, Trump said he “wished her well.” He used campaign finance money to silence an adult film star. We know all of this; it’s a matter of public record.
The only way I can make sense over the selective outrage is that his supporters believe the secret cabal of sex offenders conspiracy theories and they want to see high profile people exposed, not that they actually care about the victims.
It’s interesting that MAGA is directing their anger at Bondi and not the primary person, Trump, who is very likely the one telling her to shut this down. Why would he do that? I don’t know maybe because he was involved? Maybe there isn’t direct evidence and only associations, so it becomes obvious he’s been lying this whole time about a list? At this point release the info in the files! I don’t care who is mentioned or what party Epstein’s associates belong to. Pedophilia is wrong, so let’s shine a light and let the public make of it what they will. It seems odd that only Ghislaine is in jail and no one else. Why hasn’t she spoken out? The Epstein jail tape is also highly suspicious. Edited with 3 minutes missing. Who killed him and why? It all feels very House of Cards.
Ugh. I could not possibly care less about this entire subject, not when SCOTUS is eviscerating the separation of powers, hardworking migrants are being terrorized, children are being killed in Gaza while waiting for water, food meant for starving children abroad is being intentionally destroyed instead of distributed and food assistance and medical care is being slashed here at home. This whole Epstein thing is an attempt to distract from all of the horrific things happening.
And then this: “It also raises the question of what the MAGA movement stands for. Is there a set of hard-and-fast principles that unites the group, like increased government transparency or aversion to foreign conflicts? Or is it more of a personalist movement, following Trump wherever he goes?”
Really? Does any person with an ounce of sanity believe this is actually in question? There are no principles in the MAGA movement except for the “principle” of following Trump wherever he goes. I would love nothing more than to sit back and watch it implode but I’m not counting on it.
I agree to an extent that current horrors are maybe being overlooked because of this case, but what about the very real victims of Epstein and Trump? Victims of Trump himself came forward years ago and they were silenced and discredited. Do they not deserve a fight that, who knows, might implode the movement from the inside? Yes, maybe that’s wishful thinking. But ignoring or even justifying predatory and misogynistic men (not saying you’re doing that, but society as a whole) is how we even got here in the first place. This corruption and evil is from the same root as the corruption and evil of white supremacy, Christian nationalism, authoritarianism etc. It’s all horrible.
You’re right, I should not have sounded so dismissive about the victims. I’m just tired of the breathless headlines and discussions whenever there is a scandal that creates speculation whether this scandal might be the one that cracks MAGA. And I absolutely believe this whole “will they or won’t they” release the file is just another manufactured circus act to capture our attention. Sadly, with the deep pockets and armies of lawyers that Epstein’s clients possess, and then his untimely death, I think justice for the victims was always a long shot. Look at the Diddy trial and all of that horrible testimony. And he was only convicted of a minor charge. It’s an awful state of affairs that culminated with our electing a serial adulterer and adjudicated sexual abuser as the president of the United States. The pendulum has to swing back toward character and integrity at some point. I hope I’m around to see it. In the meantime, I won’t ignore the people who were hurt and the people who are still victims.
I agree, it’s exhausting. And it’s true that justice is a long shot. I think the truth of it matters though and I hope to see the pendulum swing back too.
EXACTLY. This case in and of itself is a distraction. Yesterday SCOTUS paved the way for public ed to be altered forever. When we burn out the great educators who quit the profession since they have no paras & special ed support (which is needed more now than ever!) … who will be filling those roles. I’m so sad for the direction this country is going.
You might be right. Whether it's intentional or not for a specific PR need or just part of the "flood the zone" strategy that's ongoing, a circus event is invented every week to overwhelm everyone trying to keep track of what's important.
That being said, just now, Trump has seemingly doubled down on the implosion, and MAGA is extremely unhappy about it. Even Truth Social is erupting in grief.
From NBC:
"President Donald Trump on Wednesday disowned his supporters who have called for the release of files related to Jeffrey Epstein, chiding them as "weaklings" who "bought into this bulls---."
"The lengthy post on Truth Social represents the clearest split from the faction of his MAGA base that has questioned the Justice Department’s handling of the case.
"My PAST supporters have bought into this “bulls---” hook, line, and sinker," he said in the post, adding, "Let these weaklings continue forward and do the Democrats work, don’t even think about talking of our incredible and unprecedented success, because I don’t want their support anymore!""
[end of quote]
So it's seeming more and more like the rift is very real, but unfortunately there might be a catastrophe around the corner to close ranks. Will it work? I don't know! These MAGA people are having a serious existential conversation with themselves.
What I find most fascinating is that this topic is what has gotten the biggest negative reactions out of his maga base. A literal conspiracy theory. Not any of the other horrific things he and his administration have done and are doing. I think the cracks are beginning to show in the fan base and the administration though, and those cracks will widen with the broader public as the economy worsens. Mike Johnson breaking with Trump on Epstein is a big deal. I don’t think this is a story that will go away if Trump just keeps trying to sweep it under the rug. I think even Trump has underestimated how rabid his base is. He’s been happy to throw chum in the water for them for years. But now that he withholding, it’s clearly not getting a good reaction. His response, the “what’s going on with my guys and gals” feels very much like he knows he’s about to become the meal.
Sorry, should clarify my position. I believe that everything both Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell were convicted for was fully legit. And that there are very likely many wealthy individuals who are also implicated who absolutely should be revealed and held to account. What I think is a conspiracy theory is the belief that the “deep state” is what has been keeping this thing under wraps for this long. MAGA is not singularly interested in this case because of the sex trafficking aspect (though that’s what many of them might say) but this case got more attention than it likely deserved because of qanon inspired beliefs about the democrats running a child sex trafficking cabal and are drinking the blood of children and this being linked to the Epstein case. That’s the conspiracy theory part I’m referring to. But Sharon’s point today stands, if this whole thing is a “made up hoax” by the democrats, then yes Ghislaine Maxwell would be in prison for no reason. That’s the logical inconsistency that Sharon has pointed out and that Trump is trying to pass off to his base.
And here, I see the opposite. The 180 Kirk did from Saturday to Monday was telling. The MAGA base are in a cult - and I don’t think anything will deter them from support of their Dear Leader.
Whatever is in those files, is big if they are willing to risk the backlash.
Perhaps all of the pictures (of some really powerful people) with Epstein are a big red flag?
These dudes have been protected for years and years and apparently even these despicable allegations are no match for the force field they have around them.
Everyday is a new onslaught of bad policy or cruelty. It feels way overwhelming, I don’t know what to focus on. It ultimately all boils down to corruption. So, I am trying to decide which bad policy affects my interests/passions enough so I can focus on that one and try and make the disaster less so. I am leaning towards education.
But again, I feel so bad for the victims of Epstein and all of the others on “the list”. It’s got to feel like being violated yet again.
This is the most disgraceful, unpatriotic group of republicans in my lifetime. If any report of Hilary’s emails, or Hunter’s laptop surfaced, there would be committees formed, appearances on any show that would book them, and a battle cry of “we told you those woke liberals were hiding the proof”. The information wouldn’t have to be provable or from a credible source, they would run with it anyway. But when there is actual evidence of a horrific crime committed against children, they look the other way, chalk it up to a democratic conspiracy or just say get over it and move on. The hypocrisy is staggering. I would not be surprised if there is evidence that trump partook in this abuse, he’s always talking about young girls in inappropriate ways. While this is a sensational case, it’s hardly the first time trump and MAGA have lied and tried to push crimes under the rug. At least we have a record of the vote from all the republicans who chose to obey trump and look the way, instead of trying to get justice for the dozens of children that were abused by Epstein and his cronies. Thanks MAGA, for failing the entire country with your uneducated votes.
What struck me most is how tangled the search for “truth” becomes when partisanship and influencer culture take the lead. There's this desperate hunger for answers around Epstein, understandably, but watching it get absorbed into performance politics is deeply unsettling.
It also makes me reflect on how easily distraction and spectacle are used to pacify or redirect collective anger. A binder. A press event. A catchy title. And somehow… less clarity than ever.
It’s interesting to look at the language they use. There is no “client list.” There is no spreadsheet of who and where and when. That’s not the same as saying there is no evidence.
I am really at a loss. Reading about all of the ICE updates in particular - and the abominable conditions at alligator Alcatraz and random ice “facilities” is too much to stomach.
I truly don’t understand how we can prevent things from getting even worse - and force congress to step in end this unethical treatment.
I feel like this is a distraction from the ICE atrocities. They're being flooded with BILLIONS of dollars. It's only just begun. And anything they can keep in the news distracts from that.
The Epstein case is 💯💯💯deplorable and should be handled in the light. But he's doing what he always does and is just continuing to deflect and gaslight and trivialize over and over and over until everyone just gets tired and eventually moves on.
Granted this is probably the most push back I've seen and I do hope they keep pushing but it definitely distracts from Alligator Alcatraz, doesn't it?
It's always a good idea to hedge your expectations for MAGA's sense of morality, that's true. But for those of you that needed a little bit of optimism today, I have a counterargument to those who say this will end up like every other controversy they ignore.
This has completely pierced their rightwing "podcaster bro" "manosphere" media apparatus bubble they used to win the last election. These podcasters are not people who have incentive to bow to the Republican party platform. When their listeners are skeptical of the MAGA talking points, they do question it. And they are incentivized to keep a "truth above all else" brand. We've seen them question the MAGA narrative before, but this is way different than when they were outraged about foreign policy.
Yesterday I was having a rough day and I thought I'd cheer myself up with some comments on the Instagram reel for a popular podcaster (two guys who talk for over 3 hours an episode, with a combined Instagram following over 1 million users). Yesterday's subject: Trump met Melania through Epstein and Melania was an escort at the time and also part-time porn actress (this is untrue by the way, but the influencers have gone so far in the anti-Trump direction that they're actually creating negative disinformation about him).
Here's some comments that made me smile, and I promise I'm not cherry picking. I'm only skipping ones where people are replying with emojis.
"after the studio 54 days, we have a close friend who was a security doorman of a very popular nightclub in NY and saw our very own Trumpie and Melania alwayyyys with mr epstein. and Melania was an escort/ call girl. Just stuff they dont tell u! theyre all puppets, everyone is bought. american lies live on."
"i don't think he's going to destroy his legacy at this point and not exposing Epstein would be in fact hurt his legacy and what he stands for. I'm still optimistic. I think it's more complex than we know and also not so easy to just expose everyone. You'd have markets crashing amongst other things that it can cause. I'm just sitting back observing because at the end of the day we have no control over what's happening."
"i hear u but either way it's just made me put my hope in Jesus. at least i know that's truth."
"100% this is a spiritual war most can't comprehend. The lord saved Trump for a reason a year ago. He's not a perfect man but i truly believe he's doing Gods work. I think we deserve the truth about everything, no matter how hard it may be. I know it's unrealistic but i have faith. He knows we are all pissed about this and it was out of the blue when he's been having so many wins. That's why i tend to think there's more to it all. I hope l'm right. Awareness will help bring an end to the abuse so many children have suffered for hundreds of years I'm sure"
"Slander! Melania Trump was a high fashion model, not a porn star. Get your facts straight."
"I would think if she was an escort or did corn the left would have smeared that all over the place" [then the podcaster replies] "they have. All over the msm for years" and then another user replies "I think they have. But they spread it on democrat news sources, and Not on conservative news sources, so we ignored it." [then the original commenter says] "Ive honestly never heard any of this. l've seen pictures that were debunked many times. Either way love your stuff keep up the good work but let's make sure we get the facts straight and not just spit ball nonsense like the left does." [then the podcaster replies again] "Feel free to google it. Truth is truth. This isn't nonsense"
I have not seen any mention of the pressure on Trump by his millionaire and billionaire friends who may be terrified of the client list surfacing. And for Trump that could cost millions of dollars in campaign support plus loss of a Republican wall in congress to always support and pass his agenda.
To be fair, it's not just MAGA supporters who are outraged. For example, I also believe it's insane that Ghislane is serving 20 years for that man's crimes and now we are suddenly supposed to believe there was no list? Talk about a cover-up for the higher-ups.
If they had nothing to hide, it would have been released. Are people so stupid to believe all of the gaslighting this administration keeps on doing?!? It’s absolutely sickening!! Because Drumpf Is probably all over the notes; heck there is so much video of him buddying it up with Epstein. For years we have heard of Drumpf’s SA on women, yet everyone and evidence keeps getting silenced. Will people not wake up and realize what a sham and con artist this man and all of his associates are?? I am tired of screaming, “make it make sense.” It’s like we are living in a parallel universe and it’s truly the Twilight Zone in real life. Millions who drank the orange Kool-Aid and here we are, the rest of us sitting on the sidelines with our sanity.
So I just saw this linked yesterday, but apparently a reporter called everyone listed it the "black book" that got leaked shortly after Epstein's death. It turns out it isn't a list of who did what, but a contact book. Still, the fact that some names were in there and the conversations the reporter had do show there's some connections to be made.
The only way I can make sense over the selective outrage is that his supporters believe the secret cabal of sex offenders conspiracy theories and they want to see high profile people exposed, not that they actually care about the victims.
It's this, for sure. They want to believe in a mysterious, shady threat so that they can ignore the blatant threat right in front of them.
The Epstein jail tape is also highly suspicious. Edited with 3 minutes missing. Who killed him and why? It all feels very House of Cards.
And what makes you think “The List” would even be true? Their hands have been all over it.
Good point! My suspicion is there is no list just a lot of flight and meeting logs and pictures, and Trump is in those.
I think (not 100% sure) that Ghislaine has offered to testify, but Rs have not taken her up on it.
It's been repeatedly reported that she has offered to testify, but that Biden also blocked it (and now Trump is).
Nailed it. Of all the horrifying things that Trump and SCOTUS have done, THIS is what people are upset about. My Lord.
Unfortunately, Trump’s pattern suggests there’s a “Diversion/Distraction” coming soon. And it’s never something good.
You might be right. Whether it's intentional or not for a specific PR need or just part of the "flood the zone" strategy that's ongoing, a circus event is invented every week to overwhelm everyone trying to keep track of what's important.

Thank you, Timothy. I have not seen this.
But since nothing that he says/posts can be trusted, is he really serious? Or is this another ploy?
Liars gotta lie!

If it's a literal conspiracy theory, why is Ghislane serving 20 years?? You can't have it both ways, and what Epstein did is ALSO horrific.

It may not have been enough to dismantle MAGA, but I learned one thing watching this:
Staunch supporters of all levels will actually turn on him.

But did anyone actually investigate if Melania did, in fact, do corn? That would really be scandalous!
the radical left has been covering her corn past and his corn star extramarital affairs for years but it was only on the left wing news
