I’ve been keeping a secret—and it’s finally time to tell you.
The Preamble is evolving in a big way, and you’re at the center of it.
Each week, you’ll get to help decide what we cover. From immigration to owls to finding hope in heavy times, you’ll vote on the stories that matter most — and we’ll dive deep, together.
We’re always trying to innovate, and that means meeting our readers and viewers where they are, whether that’s on social media, in person, or in your inbox. We also know that this particular moment in history feels heavy. You have a lot on your mind. And we’ve figured out a way to help.
Each day, you’re enduring a firehose of thousands of pieces of news, and somehow, you’re supposed to have an opinion on all of it, from Taylor Swift to Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. You’ve told us that you have only the best of intentions, but you’re not always able to read The Preamble every day.
What’s changing
To meet this moment, The Preamble is becoming a weekly digital magazine.
Each weekly edition will have a theme (decided by you!), and we’ll explore multiple aspects of that topic. If we’re discussing immigration, perhaps we’ll run an explainer on exactly what is broken in the immigration system and how it could be fixed, another article might be an interview with immigration attorneys and people navigating the system, and another could be teachers who are working in schools that have large migrant populations.
Perhaps we’ll call up the mayor of a city that is experiencing enhanced ICE enforcement, and speak to people working in the agency itself. We can offer resources on how to get involved in your own community, thoughts about how to talk to your children or students, and a guide for what to do if ICE arrives at your workplace.
And this is but one example: we can’t wait to hear what you want to read about.

Top 5 things that have happened in the past year that are signs of a crumbling democracy; should we truly be concerned of our governmental structure could cease to exist and what real control do we have over it as everyday citizens? More historical deep dives into how this has happened in other countries and what we can learn from them.
How can we, as individuals, help bring about true change? It often feels like we are so small and that any "screaming" we're doing is into a void. Do we band together? Do we march? How do we do these things with purpose and effect? In a world where everything happens and changes so quickly, it is easy to get tired before you see results. I would love for you to dig deeper into this. Thank you for listening and being there for all of us.
