I line in NY and am a Democrat. I am very disappointed in Senator Schumer and the leadership in the Senate. The Senate should expel Menendez immediately. Congress needs to be held to a high standard. It is very upsetting that they blast the other party for not doing anything and yet they do the exact same thing.

I agree 100%. We can’t scream at the other side and then let this slide.

Sounds like a Governerd letter-writing campaign to Senator Schumer asking him to remove Menendez is in order!

Agreed!! A few thousand letters (not emails, a pile of actual letters) might get some attention!

Federal employees can't even accept a business lunch provided by a US corporation of it's over the dollar limit but it's okay for Supreme Court justices, Senators, and Representatives to accept bribes?!! No! This disgusts me.

I do live in NJ and I would want Menendez to resign. No Goldbar Bob for me.

We need a major overhaul of Congress. They of course make their own rules. How convenient of the rich old white mens club.

Another example of why character matters in our leaders. Power corrupts, and those with power will do always anything to keep it.

Wondering what bribes Schumer has taken for keeping Bob in office. Wondering about this tangled web. How dare they downplay the seriousness

I just said the same thing about Shummer. What might he be covering up?

He has absolutely zero business being in any position of power. I don’t think ANY foreign influence should be allowed over our politicians. And yes, that includes lobbiests for foreign countries. It’s absurd and sways their their thoughts & actions to serve those lobbiests & a foreign cover interests over our own. NO FOREIGN MONEY FOR OUR POLITICIANS!!

Maybe we need to gift the members of Congress the book by Robert Fulgham, All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten. If adults could remember to abide by simple rules, like those we ask of a kindergartner, the world would be a better place.

I apologize. The author’s last name is spelled Fulghum.

"Bob Menedez has been a dedicated public servant and is always fighting hard for the people of New Jersey . . . " It's always the same excuse with men in power, men of privilege. We the People shouldn't let their bad deeds overshadow all the good they have done or have the potential to do in the future, no matter how heinous and horrific those bad deeds might be. Except We the People are tired of the Bob Menendezes, of being gaslit and told "They're good public servants who are only human--shrug emoji." This is not the time for measured words. It's time to act and enforce your own Senate rules. It's time for Schumer to be the dedicated public servant and do what is right for the American people and get Menendez to step down.

I do not live in NJ, but if I did I would not want to be represented by Menendez.

I typically fall in line with the Democratic Party, and I absolutely hate how they have chosen to handle this situation. The Dem leaders in Congress love to remind Reps members of all the crimes and shady things they have gotten away with, but yet here we are allowing a Democrat to get away with crimes and shadiness.

It’s not a good look guys, it is not a good look.

Schumer can’t unilaterally remove Menendez. It takes a two thirds vote of the entire Senate. Republican and Democratic senators have said they would not vote to expel Menendez unless and until he admits wrongdoing, is found guilty in a court of law or expulsion is recommend as a result of a Senate ethics investigation. Republicans have practically admitted publicly they want Menendez to remain as kind of a public black eye for the opposition. And maybe Democrats are looking ahead to a time when weaponization of the Justice Dept becomes a reality and one would want due process to run its course before turning to a remedy like expulsion, which allows a relative few to negate the votes of many. For Menendez, it certainly seems like there is more than sufficient evidence to convict. If that happens then I think everything changes.

Well, then it sounds like we should be writing to ALL of our senators to vote to remove Gold Bar Bob. His staying in his position should not be a political maneuver for any reason.

However, even if the senate refuses to remove him , which I find very disappointing, they could sanction him and keep him off of all committees couldn’t they?

I genuinely don’t understand why they haven’t gotten rid of Menendez. I’d say it was because Dems didn’t want to give up the slimmest of advantages in the senate except NJ has a Democratic governor who would surely appoint a Dem to replace him until the next election cycle.

That's where I get confused too! NJ is not a swing state! Just expel him already!

Though I am not from NJ, I think I can safely say that no one wants a criminal representing them. I certainly don't want one as president. What I see today is an acceptance of criminal behavior and rule breaking by the members of the House and Senate. Integrity is lacking as is their responsiblity to the people. Like you said, Sharon, anyone else would be removed while awaiting trial. But no, not in Congress. Business as usual, nothing to see here. This constant support of wrongdoers is disgusting. Two words for all of them: DO SOMETHING!
