Breaking: VP Vance casts his first tie-breaking vote after five days on the job. Three Republicans and 47 Democrats voted against confirming Pete Hegseth as the Secretary of Defense. 50 Republicans voted yes. The tie had to be broken after Senators Murkowski, Collins, and McConnell all voted no on the highly controversial Cabinet pick.

While the vote was happening, Hegseth posted a rebuttal to a recent affidavit from his former sister-in-law that said Hegseth made his ex-wife “fear for her safety.” I’ve written more about Hegseth here and here.

Here is what Hegseth had to say on X:

Hegseth will likely have a busy weekend as he takes the helm of a $800+ billion organization that oversees millions of employees.

On to some of your questions:

Can you tell us whether Trump’s cryptocurrency release is going to be challenged and whether it will hold up as being legal? Is it ethical?
