Paul Krugman is one of the clearest economic thinkers of our time – a Nobel laureate and longtime New York Times columnist. In this interview, I asked him the questions I hear dozens of times a day from you, including a few you may not have thought of yet.
We talked about what Venezuelan oil does (and doesn’t) change for American businesses and wallets, whether this is actually a tough job market, or whether that’s just public psychology, and if the recent sunny trade deficit headlines are actually cause for optimism.
We also got specific on interest rates: if the Fed cuts them, will mortgage rates go down? (The answer surprised me!)
And to pull it all together, I asked him to rank the US economy right now on a scale of 1-10.
