Yesterday, just after the plane I was on landed in New York, the pilot came on the intercom to congratulate me on the release of The Small and the Mighty, which was born today. (I posted a clip of it here.)
I wrote this book for you. I hope you’ll hold it in your hands and feel —get ready, this is sappy— the love and care I put into every word. I hope when you close the last page, you’ll know: great Americans are not people of the past, whose fortunes piled up in vaults stored beneath the earth. They are not just the people who have their names emblazoned on the side of a museum or who commanded the most decisive military victories.
Many of the big, important, and lasting changes made in US history came about from people who just kept doing the next needed thing. From people who made the choice to hope despite all evidence to the contrary. From people whose character was formed, day by day, through trial and travail, people who just had the audacity to say yes when their moment came.
These are the pregnant teenagers. The elderly women. The formerly enslaved. The teachers, the immigrants, the orphans, and the falsely arrested. More than one thing is bombed. And several people become surprisingly rich. Some rich with money, and some rich with things that matter more.
These are the small and the mighty. And so are we.
Happy birth day to my very first book. It’s now available wherever you get your books, at indie stores, at Target, Barnes and Noble, and at many retailers online. If you buy a copy, you can still get the preorder bonuses by claiming them here — you just need your receipt or a screenshot of your order confirmation.
The first week of sales is so important, and the book is heavily discounted at many retailers right now, so grab an extra copy for your holiday gift giving while it’s 30+% off! Here’s a link.
Thank you all so much for your support. <3
Can’t wait for my book to arrive, but I hope you know that the title fits you well. It’s a honor to watch your journey and see all the small things you have done and the mighty impact it is having on so many people. I look forward to seeing where the next part of your story takes you. I predict more big things are to come from how you live your life and give to others.
I love the airplane shout out so much! So in the spirit of your book too. I ordered 3 more copies today, 1 for a gift, and 2 for gifts for friends who are going to your book event with me. I am so grateful for your work! I am also delighted to share my 30th wedding anniversary with your book launch day! May this be the first of many book launches to celebrate!
